Peter Millican Discusses the Edinburgh Park Tapestry Commission

Peter Millican Discusses the Edinburgh Park Tapestry Commission

In 2020 during the depths of lockdown, Dovecot – the world-renowned tapestry studio in Edinburgh – began work on a major new public art commission.

The tapestry, which is due to be completed in late 2021, will ultimately hang at the heart of the Edinburgh Park development, a vital new quarter of the city currently under construction.

The commission is inspired by Leon Kossoff’s painting ‘Study from Minerva Protects Pax from Mars by Rubens’ and is a highly charged anti-war composition in which Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, helps to drive away Mars, the god of war. When completed it will become Dovecot’s first public artwork for Edinburgh in a decade.

Watch Peter Millican, the owner and founder of Parabola, as he discusses his commitment to commission bold new work with Celia Joicey, Director of Dovecot Studios.
